I remember reading this essay about tea by George Orwell. Now I’m no Orwell, but I do have an opinion about tea. This is it:

  1. Use a teapot.
  2. Use good loose leaf tea. This is stuff that when brewed actually looks like whole leaves.
  3. Realise you don’t have any loose tea and use a teabag instead.
  4. The pot should be warmed before brewing because anything to keep the tea hot is a good thing.
  5. Add boiling water and brew for 3 minutes or more, not less. Strong is good.
  6. Milk first makes life easier.
  7. Pour the tea with a sense of ceremony.
  8. Only add sugar if your tea is particularly bitter.
  9. Sit down.
